Sit down with me the way my clients do when they slip into my treatment room, tired, hopeful, and carrying far more than anyone realizes. I want to tell you something softly, something I’ve been saying for years: Your skin doesn’t always need more. Sometimes, it needs less. Much less. And you know what else? So do you. Let me explain, gently, the way I do when a woman looks at me with exhaustion in her eyes and asks why her products aren’t working anymore.
“Eydie, I’m using everything I’m supposed to… so why is my skin getting worse?”
Because you’re tired, your skin is tired. Your spirit is tired, and tired skin does not respond to pressure. It responds to peace. Sometimes when a woman comes in with irritated, inflamed, confused skin, I don’t add anything to her routine. I actually remove things.
I say:
- “Let’s stop exfoliating for a bit.”
- “Let’s simplify your steps.”
- “Let’s let your barrier breathe.”
- “Let’s give your nervous system some space.”
And within days, sometimes hours, the skin sighs with relief.
“But won’t my skin get worse if I pull back?”
Let me tell you what I’ve seen over and over again: Healing begins the moment pressure stops. When you stop scrubbing, stripping, forcing, layering, testing… Your skin finally gets a chance to repair itself, the way God designed it to.
Your skin is not a machine. It’s a living, breathing organ that protects you every second of every day. It needs gentleness more than intensity.
“I’m afraid to do less. What if I lose progress?”
Oh, I understand that fear. Women say this all the time. But hear me: Sometimes the progress you’ve lost isn’t from doing too little. It’s from doing too much, too quickly, too aggressively. Your skin thrives on consistency, not complication.
If you’re overwhelmed, your skin is overwhelmed.
If you’re overstimulated, your skin is overstimulated.
You and your skin are always in conversation.
“How do I know when it’s time to simplify?”
Listen for these whispers:
- Your skin feels tight even with moisturizer.
- Redness appears more easily.
- Products start stinging.
- Breakouts appear unexpectedly.
- Texture becomes rough.
- Makeup doesn’t sit right.
- Everything seems to make things worse.
These are not failures. They are requests.
Your skin is saying, ‘Please slow down. Please go back to basics.’
And you should; without guilt.
“So what does ‘resting’ my skin look like?”
Very simple:
- A gentle cleanser
- A hydrating toner or essence
- A nourishing moisturizer
- Sunscreen during the day
- Water
- Sleep
- Stillness
- Fewer products
- Softer movements
- More prayer, less pressure
Let your skin breathe. Let your spirit breathe.
“Will my glow come back?”
Oh yes. Sometimes the glow returns the moment the stress leaves. Sometimes it returns after a few days of gentle care. Sometimes it returns at the exact moment you stop trying to force it. But it always returns. Because your glow is not just in your products. Your glow is in your peace.
From My Heart to Yours
My dear friend…
You don’t have to earn your beauty. You don’t have to fight for it. You don’t have to push your skin to its limits.
Your skin is not a project. It is a reflection of your life, your stress, your joy, your sleep, your diet, your prayers, your pace. When life gets gentle, your skin does too.
And if you ever feel overwhelmed by your routine, exhausted by trying new products, or unsure what your skin is asking for, I would love to help you simplify and start fresh.
Together, we’ll choose peace for your skin, and for your heart.
With so much love,
~ Eydie Claassen
